I have a small poster selling business with posters in three locations. I am looking for a cost effective solution, hopefully under $300. to be able to add or use current barcodes on the posters and go back to the places once a month, scan the remaining posters, and see what has sold.

I may have the same poster at all three locations or just one location depending on the title and can have from 1-20 of the same poster in stock.

for the past couple years I have used excel spreadsheets, but this is becoming too time consuming as I add titles and locations.

All of the software programs I have tried in this range do not seem to help with the hard count of stock once a month. Since I do not own the stores the posters are sold in I am unable to check them out as sold. So I must be able to just go in and do a scan of the remaining products to know what has sold.

Inflow inventory seems to be the closest one so far, but the only way I think it may be able to work is to do a transfer of stock when I do the monthly scan and whichever ones do not come up to transfer are the ones that have sold…. Not sure if I will be able to move the remaining to a purchase ticket to show them as being sold in the previous month.. I have just ordered a barcode scanner to see if this will be possible.

Any ideas would be helpful!

I am part of an organization that has an event in which attendees have the option of submitting reports that periodically go to a viewing room in which other attendees can view the well-being of other branches in the organization. We have had many issues in the past in which some reports are either misplaced or not in a place they are supposed to be. We are looking at a solution in which several PC tablets (not laptops) will be used to track the orders. We have looked at the idea of allocating each report with a barcode, attaching a pen USB barcode scanner to the tablets, and then using some sort of tracking software that would update in a wireless system that we could reference to see exactly where each report is. My dilemma is this: I need to find a software that can track these reports when they are scanned at the office where they are filed, and when they reach the viewing room checkpoints, in addition to being able to update to a central database all the computers can reference on the network. Any ideas?

I was disappointed to see Andrew Rosenthal promoted to editor of the editorial page of the NY Times. Anybody else remember his made up story about the elder Bush and barcode scanners ?? Rosenthal was flat out busted writing a column describing the president’s awe at barcode scanners, funny thing was Rosenthal wasn’t present for the event and of course got his facts all wrong. These things happen when you plagairize the AP pool writer’s notes.

Not a company to let such incompetence go unnoticed, the Times promptly promoted Rosenthal and now he gets another promotion. What a sad circumstance for what was once the paper of record for the whole world.

Does anyone know of a cash register that can also keep track of inventory levels? I’m thinking of a cash register (with barcode scanner) that either has inventory software built in, or has one available as an option.

I’m envisioning something simple, like inputting the inventory level for each sku by scanning the barcode then manually typing the quantity. Then having the cash register change the inventory level each time a barcode is scanned. I figure the inventory info would be uploaded from the cash register to a PC for printout, etc instead of the cash register actually printing reports.

Does anyone know if something like that exists?
